Together with Pleso psychotherapy platform psychologist, Tetyana Makohon, we’ve prepared some valuable tips for you:
First of all, establish a daily routine
It’s best to set up a routine in advance, but if you haven’t done so, don’t worry. Help your child gradually adjust to the rhythm during the first month of school, and be patient, as full adaptation can take a few weeks.
Stay calm and confident
Children pick up on their parents’ emotions. So, if you’re anxious about school, your child might sense it.
Remember: calm parents mean calm children. Speak about school positively, emphasizing its advantages and opportunities. When a child understands that school is a good and interesting place, they will approach the new experience with less anxiety.
Develop an understanding of the value of education
It’s important for children to understand why school matters. Explain that education will help them achieve their dreams and goals. Provide examples of how the knowledge gained in school will be useful in their future profession. An additional motivation could be a planned winter break in an English-language camp, where learning is combined with fun activities. This will make the process enjoyable and boost their interest in learning in the future.
These simple steps will help your child adapt to school and make learning more enjoyable and understandable. Be sensitive, understanding, and supportive of your child – your support is crucial during this time.
